I found slices of wood in markets in S. Korea. sweet, tastey. What is it for? Tea? Also bundles of rose limbs?
The wood is redish with bark. Sliced on the diagonal. About the sz of a womens thumb. Tastes sort of like anise. Medicinal use?
alot of people use bits of wood to smoke their meats (i.e. hickory ,apple cherry etc.) this could be the same use as for the wood you have found.
Wood Roses Imitate The Real One Well
The next time you consider sending roses to a friend and/or loved one, consider buying wood roses instead. Wood roses are individually hand crafted so no two are ever alike. They are painted in a wide variety of colors and unless you get up close, you can't tell if they are the real thing or not. If it's the smell of roses that entices you to buy them at all, look no further than scented mists that can be sprayed on wood roses.
Roses have had their place in literature for hundreds of years. From Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, act II, scene ii: "What's in a name? That which we call a rose/By any other name would smell as sweet;" to author F. Scott Fitzgerald who had Daisy Buchanan say in The Great Gatsby: "I love to see you at my table, Nick. You remind me of a- of a rose, an absolute rose;" to poet Robert Burns' A Red, Red Rose: "O, my love's like a red, red rose/That's newly sprung in June." Roses are used as expressions for what we often can't say – that we love someone or care deeply for them. It's no wonder that each color of a rose has a significant meaning. The red rose for instance, means, love, courage, beauty, respect, and passion.
The time honored tradition of wood carving has always been a mode of expression in different cultures. Since roses are also given as ways to express oneself, it seems only fitting that wood roses have become popular alternatives to the real thing.
In fourteenth century BC, wood carving was common in Egypt where it could be seen in the royal images and the ceremonial furniture that resided in the tomb of Tutankhamen. While the Greeks also used wood for their archaic sculptures, they much preferred the use of bronze and stone. In contrast, wood carving was completely unknown in the cultures of Babylonia, Assyria, and ancient Persia.
Wood carvings played an important role in Europe; from the Romanesque to the baroque period, the heart of Spanish sculptures were formed from wood. And even when not used to construct pieces of art like sculpture, wood was widely used by many in the making of furniture, which is still true today. A wood rose, like a carefully crafted sculpture, is a beautiful piece of artwork. They are designed just like the real thing thus they can be purchased with buds partially open or in full bloom. Depending on where you buy them, wood roses can also have their stem lengths cut to your specifications, thus you can choose to have both long and short stems if you wish. Wood roses can also be carved into boutonnieres or used as centre pieces at special events like a wedding. Either way, everything is coming up roses when you choose to buy one made of wood.
