How do I change all files in a certain folder to read-only?

Is there a way to do this without having to select all the files? I have folders within folders and I don't want to have to go to those individually.

One way you can do this is to use the Command Prompt (DOS window) and the ATTRIB command. Simply open a command prompt window, navigate to the folder where the files you want to change are located and issue the ATTRIB command:

CD path_to_folder
ATTRIB +R

Here is the output from HELP ATTRIB:

Displays or changes file attributes.

ATTRIB [+R | -R] [+A | -A ] [+S | -S] [+H | -H] [drive:][path][filename]
[/S [/D]]

+ Sets an attribute.
- Clears an attribute.
R Read-only file attribute.
A Archive file attribute.
S System file attribute.
H Hidden file attribute.
[drive:][path][filename]
Specifies a file or files for attrib to process.
/S Processes matching files in the current folder
and all subfolders.
/D Processes folders as well.

Tips and Techniques in Creating Pocket Folders

Creating pocket folders is not a walk in the park. Even if you are already highly experienced in producing pocket folders, you may still encounter challenges – big or small – along the way. What more if you are just a designer beginner, who has no prior experience in making and printing publications design, right? You may find yourself getting involved in significant consultations, having to learn about the design and creative processes in the shortest possible time, and trusting the trial and error method, among others. Those who do not have the patience and the determination in going through endless revisions, creating pocket folders can be one big source of frustration. One may just leave the entire work load to others. Do not worry if you can't help but think that creating and printing pocket folders may be beyond your league. You can make the process of making pocket folders an easy job. Always remember that your work can be made easy if you only know helpful strategies on how to ace this design and creative challenge.  So, if you wish to pursue making pocket folders, read the following guidelines:

-     Create a design theme for your pocket folders. It all starts with a single idea. If you already have a design vision, you are already one step closer. On the other hand, if you still have not made up your mind regarding the over-all design, you may want to get some insights from other people. You may want to brainstorm with them, so you can come up with a design template that sells. You may want to take a look at the objectives of your promotional campaign to give you design direction.
-    Select the design elements that you are going to use. These design elements range from images to font styles. If you already have a design theme, you know more or less what those elements you wish to incorporate are. You may start with the images. As you should know, when using images, you need to have these in high resolution. A lot of people commit this mistake. As a result, the appearance of their pocket folders looks pixelated. Thus, invest on high resolution images. If you have no available stock, you can always get royalty-free images over the internet. Aside from that, you can always hire professional photographers to provide you with your needed images.
-    Keep in mind the concepts and principles in creating pocket folders and publications design in general. Any person would appreciate getting visually appealing as well as high quality pocket folders. Thus, work on your design template. Make sure that you apply the basics: balance, symmetry, and aesthetics. You may want to create color combinations that can make your pocket folders stand out from the rest.
-    One step that every businessman or advertiser should not forget is to print a sample. There are people who easily jump on print production without checking how their design templates look on print. They just find out after that there is a need to make necessary changes. Thus, before you even let the design template go into the printer, look for possible flaws.

When making pocket folders, be critical. Check whether there are still some components you can improve or if there are texts that need to be rearranged.
