How would you separate aluminum cans, steel cans, soda cans, milk jugs, and salt?
How would you separate aluminum cans, steel cans, soda cans, milk jugs, and salt?
We have:
1 A long conveyor belt
2 A large tank that can be filled with water
3 Several powerful magnets hanging above the conveyor belt
4 Nets for skimming the tanks and scooping material from the bottoms.
I need a way to separate the 4 recycled materials. Oh, and by the way, all the materials/contents are grounded into a fine powder. Please help me find the answer.... Thanks!
First of all, soda cans are now made of aluminum - so lets group them with aluminum.
The steel cans are the easiest to remove via the use of the magnets.
The milk jugs are probably made of plastic and probably have a specific gravity less than 1 - that is they will float. They can be removed with skimmers at the surface of the water.
The aluminum has a specific gravity of greater than one -so it will sink. They can be removed via a mechanism to scoop material from the bottom of the tanks.
The salt is the only item which dissolves in water. If the tank is located outdoors, all you have to do is to use the sun to assist in converting the water to water vapor - thus leaving the salt at the bottom of the tank.
All About Aluminum Casting
Aluminum Casting begins with a simple idea, the idea for a new aluminum product. The idea is then converted into a sample product or drawing that makes things pretty clearer for the manufacturer. However, before making of aluminum castings, the conceptualized product is examined. Does it adhere to the quality standards? Is the technology used commonly available? What tools and machines will be required to make the conceptualized product? After the evaluation is over, industry experts may offer some suggestions. They might suggest certain changes that would help in the manufacturing of the conceived product. They might even offer pointed suggestions that might help in making the product more useful. They might even propose changes that will help in cutting down the production costs. Before taking up the next step, the idea creator and the evaluators should brainstorm together. They map out future plans and whatever changes are required. Each of these changes is then set into a software program. Today, aluminum casting process depends on the information gathered by using an iron mold. The mold is made using computerized numeric control (CNC). A CNC program directs the machinery make the iron mold. Iron, a stable and lasting metal clings to the aluminum used in the first casting. Once the casting is done, the customer evaluates the product. If the customer Okays the sample, then full-scale aluminum casting is carried out. Factory workers pour the coating into the iron mold. The coating reduces the wear on the mold, and it also sets the mold for a long series of aluminum casting. The aluminum casting starts of with the melting of an aluminum alloy. The alloy is heated in 1300 degrees Fahrenheit. The alloy melts and the workers scoop the molten metal into the iron mold. After the iron mold is filled to the brim with aluminum alloy, the molten metal is then cooled. Once the metal and mold have cooled the iron cast is removed. After the iron mold can hold no more liquid, the molten metal is allowed to cool. Once the metal and mold have cooled, the iron cast is removed. At that point, finishing work on the caste aluminum starts. Sometimes the aluminum casting must undergo sanding, grinding, or powder coating. Finally, the aluminum castings serve as the key step in the formation of a functional product.
